Professional Experience

Research Fellow, Australian National University. 2019-2021. Fellowship under the ARC and Westpac Project on China and International Order. Course convener on China’s strategic and security challenges. Conducted research projects and fieldworks in Syria, Myanmar and Venezuela on non-state actors in conflict zones and post-conflict reconstruction, and China’s strategy towards conflict mediation, humanitarian assistance and regime transition.

Leading Negotiator, China-Venezuela Working Group on Crisis Solution, 2019. Established the first contacts and back-channeling negotiations between Venezuela’s opposition and Chinese government, and worked with United Nations and embassies on the ground to find a peaceful and political solution to Venezuela crisis. Lobbied for humanitarian access of multilateral organizations into Venezuela.

Representative of the network of China’s humanitarian actors at Paris Peace Forum, November 2019. Representatives at Human Rights Council, 2018. Representative of the Chinese International Law Initiative (Consultative status with ECOSOC) that participated in the Third Universal Periodic Review at Human Rights Council.

Research Associate, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). 2016-18. Managed the Poverty, Equity and Governance portfolios in rule of law, human rights and development cooperation. Provided policy research and assistance to UN Country Director and Resident Coordinator, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Myanmar, former UN Assistant Secretary-General.

Research Coordinator, UNDP-University of Oxford, 2018-19. Fundraised, pipelined and managed projects on innovative digital governance and innovative development in partnership with UN, Department of International Development in Oxford and the Alibaba Group. Researched and drafted the UN Report on Digital Credit and Sustainable Development.

Research Assistant, University of Oxford, 2018. Assisted Professor Rosemary Foot’s Project on China’s peace policies and norms.

Dahrendorf Scholar, 2017. Annual fellow in Programme on the Study of Freedom, chaired by Professor Timothy Garton Ash, Chair of European Studies Centre.

Presidential Campaign Consultant, 2016. Supported the former Peruvian President Toledo’s campaign in the 2016 election.
